 In English News

Yes! The good news came so fast that even our university application advisors were caught off guard! On October 3rd, we submitted the application, and just two working days later, on October 7th, Caylin, a student from our school, received an offer from the University of Alberta’s Artificial Intelligence program in Computer Science, a top 100 QS globally ranked university!

The University of Alberta has become a popular choice for SuOn Academy students in recent years due to its high value (2025 QS global ranking of 96 and moderate tuition fees). The enthusiasm for applying has especially grown after our alumnus, Xiaolong Gao, won the university’s sole global May Quon Scholarship, worth $45,000 CAD.

Let’s take a look at Caylin’s application strengths: she has been studying at SuOn Academy since Grade 10, passed IELTS, has excellent grades, and has won several academic competition awards.

Caylin’s early admission to such a prestigious university, even before her Grade 12 4U course results were available, is not only due to her hard work and talent but also because she started studying in Canada in Grade 10. This allowed her to enter the Ontario curriculum earlier than most students. Her outstanding performance in Grade 11 made the University of Alberta confident enough to offer a pre-admission based on her Grade 11 results, expecting she will do equally well in Grade 12. In other words, the more credits accumulated in Ontario high school with excellent results, the greater the chances of receiving early admission. This case also demonstrates how competitive top universities are. To stay competitive, they are eager to secure outstanding students early and even offer high-value scholarships to attract exceptional candidates.

Another significant factor is the University of Alberta’s trust in SuOn students. Our alumnus Xiaolong Gao’s achievement of winning the May Quon Scholarship has greatly enhanced SuOn’s reputation at the University of Alberta, especially in the eyes of its admissions officers. Additionally, SuOn graduates studying at the university have consistently performed well academically, which is highly recognized by the University of Alberta. This is crucial because North American universities analyze the academic performance of students from different high schools and use this data to evaluate the quality of each school. This mechanism helps them establish a reputation for high schools, which is reflected in future admissions decisions.

Congratulations to Caylin! We hope to receive more good news soon!
