Grand Opening of the 2024-2025 Summer Credit Courses!
On August 6th, the 2024-2025 Summer Credit Courses at SuOn Academy officially commenced. Principal Mr. Botnick personally presided over the opening ceremony, warmly welcoming the new students. With the addition of these fresh faces, the SuOn campus is brimming with energy. Vice Principal Tracy set clear rules regarding school discipline and dormitory regulations for all students.

To help students quickly adapt to the Canadian learning environment and establish clear academic goals, the principal provided an overview of the courses and emphasized a few important expectations:
Punctuality: Good attendance is a prerequisite for achieving excellent academic results.
Active Participation: Engage in classroom discussions and complete in-class tasks and homework diligently.
Proactive Learning: Take initiative in your studies, focus on daily learning, create a study plan, and adapt quickly to the expectations of a Canadian high school.
Ask Questions: Frequently ask questions and interact with teachers and classmates.

Here, it’s important to highlight the differences between Canadian and Chinese classrooms:
Unlike the lecture-focused approach in Chinese classrooms, Canadian classes feature relatively short lectures. Instead, a significant amount of time is dedicated to self-directed learning and interactive exchanges to cultivate students’ communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and teamwork – essential skills for future success in Canadian universities. Therefore, when faced with confusion, students must actively ask questions; initiative is key.

Students enrolled in the summer credit courses arrived in Canada a month early to adapt to the new environment. This allows them to become familiar with how Canadian high school classrooms operate, how teachers evaluate students, and identify which skills they need to develop before the official school year begins in September. This experience will be crucial to their studies later on. While others are still exploring and adjusting when September comes, you will already have a concrete and intuitive understanding of Canadian high school classrooms. This will provide invaluable experience for your future studies and life in Canada. Past experiences have shown that students who have taken summer credit courses tend to adapt to Canadian high school learning and life more quickly, which undoubtedly has a positive impact on their academic progress after September.
For the 2024-2025 school year, the summer credit courses offered include various levels of ESL English foundation courses, Grade 11 (3U) English, and International Business courses. The specific course schedules have already been communicated to the students by their homeroom teachers.
