SuOn Academy Students Shine at Oxford Model United Nations in Toronto

 In English News

Have you ever imagined yourself standing at the podium of an international conference, representing a country and debating global issues?
Have you dreamed of using fluent English to exchange ideas and ignite sparks of inspiration with youth from around the world?
This is what Model United Nations (MUN) is all about — a spectacular event combining eloquent communication, critical thinking, and cross-cultural exchange.

Model United Nations is an academic simulation based on the actual operations of the United Nations. Participants take on the role of national diplomats, conducting research, delivering speeches, debating, negotiating, and ultimately working toward consensus and drafting resolutions on global issues.
MUN not only tests students’ language skills, but also hones their teamwork, independent thinking, and international perspectives.

Event Highlights: SuOn Academy at the Oxford MUN

This April, SuOn Academy students were invited to participate in the Oxford Model United Nations (Oxford MUN), held at Toronto’s renowned Westin Harbour Castle Hotel.
Joining over 800 outstanding high school students from across Canada, our students embarked on a truly unique international exchange experience.

The conference offered a variety of committees, catering to different levels of experience — from General Assemblies (GA), perfect for newcomers to build confidence in public speaking, to Specialised Agencies, designed for seasoned MUN participants.

A major highlight was the Crisis Committees, where crises erupt without warning — sometimes even in the middle of the night! Delegates were challenged to respond to emergencies in real-time, requiring them to be “on-call” and ready for intense late-night negotiations.

Whether passionately debating on the floor, strategizing behind the scenes, or responding swiftly to unforeseen crises, SuOn students showcased exceptional critical thinking, communication skills, and team spirit.
For every participant, this was not just an academic challenge, but a breakthrough moment of personal growth.

Beyond Academics: A Celebration of Youth

Beyond the intense committee sessions, Oxford MUN also featured social events such as a glamorous Masquerade Ball and a lively networking party.
Dressed in formal attire and wearing elegant masks, students mingled in a relaxed atmosphere, forging friendships and expanding their social circles.
These events served as extensions of the MUN spirit — emphasizing communication, collaboration, respect, and expression both in and beyond the conference rooms.

A MUN Experience, A Lifetime of Growth

The significance of participating in Model United Nations goes far beyond the conference itself.
MUN opens a window for high school students to begin thinking about the responsibilities of being part of a “global community of shared destiny.”
It acts as a bridge, connecting young minds to the broader world.

We firmly believe that every time our students step onto the MUN stage, they take a step closer to the world.
And in the future, they will use their voices to make a powerful impact on the global stage.
