Principal Botnick, Principal Maria, and your colleagues at SuOn,
Dear Prof. Dan Lang, Prof. Ruth Hayhoe, and dear students and parents,
Good afternoon!
It’s a great honor for me to attend the graduation ceremony of SuOn students personally and physically finally. I am so excited to witness a milestone in your academic journey and join you in ushering in a new phase of life.
So, first of all, on behalf of the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Toronto, my colleague, Consul WANG Ying, and I, would like to congratulate the grads 2023 at SuOn and wish you all the best in your future life paths.
Dear Suon students and graduates, today is your day, and you have every reason to celebrate and cherish. What’s noteworthy is, besides the academic challenges that fairly fall upon all students in the other years, you won the unprecedented of pandemic. So, be proud of yourselves. You deserve a huge applause.
Meanwhile, you didn’t walk alone. I am sure you see a lot of people, which includes your families, your friends, your dear ones, and especially your teachers, who lent you their love and support toward your success. So, be grateful to all of them for helping get you to this great day.
Graduates today sitting here, yesterday you came from China, the same country, though different provinces, and tomorrow you are going in different directions. The end is the start, and this well explains the contradictory meanings of commencement.
Literature? Science? Engineering? Whatever you specialize in, one thing that I am certain is you will become the leaders of our society, the constant source of hope and optimism, by striving for truth, for fairness, for open mind, for tolerance, and for the common good.
As a Chinese diplomat, one thing, that I am certain is, wherever you go, by your side will there always be Chinese embassies and consulates to assist and protect you. (If you are in Ontario and Manitoba, welcome to the Chinese Consulate in Toronto).
Once again, wish today’s event a huge success. Wish you all the best prospects. Please stand with me and give a huge applause for the amazing class of 2023.
